This spectacular hand-colored engraving is from Pierre Buchoz’s supplement to the work Collection des Fleurs de la Chine & de l’Europe, & de tout l’Ouvrage. The work was published in 1781 in Paris.
The print available here is from what was meant to be the supplement and last two volumes of the popular work of Buchoz’s entitled Collection des Fleurs de la Chine & de l’Europe, & de tout l’Ouvrage. Some of the titles included within the supplement included Collection coloriee des plus belles varietes de Jacinthes and Collection coloriee des plus belles varieetes de Tulipes.
Buchoz was born in Metz and initially recieved instruction as a lawyer and a physician. At the age of 28, he had attained the proud post of physician to the King of Poland. In time he left his postion as he shifted his focus to another great delight in his life: natural history, especially botany.
