Lauritz de Thurah’s Den danske Vitruvius

These masterful engravings are from the first of edition of Den Danske Vitruvius (The Danish Vitruvius). The work was published in 1746-1749, and showed many of the beautiful buildings and gardens in Denmark during this period.

The Vitruvius was commissioned by the noted Dutch architect Laurids Lauridsen de Thurah. Many of the buildings were the work of the architect Johan Cornelius Krieger. Frederick IV favored Krieger and influenced Krieger’s use of architectural design with baroque landscaping.
